In the same week the Auditor‐General exposed Communications Minister Senator Conroy for his recklessness, waste and incompetence the OECD has expressed grave concern about the lack of a cost‐benefit‐analysis for the $43 billion NBN Mark II proposal. The OECD has rightly said “questions need to be answered” about the lack of a cost of cost‐benefit‐analysis for the NBN. This is not the first time the Rudd Government has been warned by the OECD.
This is what the OECD said late last year: ‐ “proposals for government investment in FTTH (Fibre to the Home) networks should include a thorough cost‐benefit‐analysis which considers any deployment of next generation networks by the private sector and any public funding of networks must be evaluated and targeted to avoid market distortions and crowding out of private investment.” As the Auditor‐General’s report confirms, Senator Conroy repeatedly ignores advice and treats taxpayer dollars like Monopoly money. The evidence continues to stack up that Senator Conroy is the master of policy disaster. While he stubbornly continues to ignore warnings and wastes millions of dollars, not one Australian has had their broadband service upgraded or improved as a result Labor’s NBN plans since the last election. |
