This morning I met with Clint Heinze, a local resident employed senior research scientist with the Commonwealth Department of Defence. Clint volunteers his time for approximately one hour per week at Manchester Primary School and Maroondah Secondary College under the CSIRO’s Scientists in Schools program. The program is chaired by the former Chief Scientist of the Australian Government, Dr Jim Peacock, and is aimed to encourage and further the study of science among Australian students. |

Casey business backs rebuilding of East Timor school |

Local small business owner, newsagent David Ferres of Arndale Lotto in Croydon is raising money to support the rebuilding of a school in East Timor. Inspired by a bike tour of the country, Mr Ferres is aiming to raise $10,000 to rebuild a school in the community of Groto for 700 students. Those who wish to assist David in reaching the target can purchase raffle tickets until June 30 from Arndale Lotto (within in the Arndale shopping centre). Local businesses have kindly donated thousands of dollars in prizes. |

Yarra Ranges Community Safety Expo - Saturday 7 November

The Shire of Yarra Ranges, in conjunction with local emergency services, are holding a ‘Community Safety Expo’ at Lillydale Lake on Saturday 7 November. See them demonstrate the use of emergency service equipment including fire trucks and the police helicopter. Plenty to do for the kids. |
