2016 Casey Volunteer Awards

Sunday, 4 December 2016
Congratulations to our 62 individual and community group volunteers who were recognised this morning at the annual Casey Volunteer Awards. It was an honour to recognise Col Hal Oxley for his lifetime dedication and contribution to our country and community and award him with the Casey Volunteer and Citizen of the Year Award. Hal turned 100 just a couple of weeks ago.
Federal Member for Casey Tony Smith MP has welcomed $208,000 in disaster resilience funding to better prepare local communities from the threat of bushfires. Mr Smith said the funding will be provided to the Southern Ranges Environment Alliance, Yarra Ranges Shire Council and Emtrain Fire & Community Safety Pty Ltd under the Federal Government’s $15 million National Bushfire Mitigation Programme.
The Australian Government is investing $10 million in Volunteer Grants in recognition of the hard work and many hours volunteers dedicate to not-for-profit organisations.
In partnership with Yarra Ranges Council, the Turnbull Government will contribute $20,000 towards the installation of a new electronic scoreboard at the Monbulk Football Netball Club and Monbulk Cricket Club’s home ground.
Margaret Lewis Reserve in Coldstream will receive new security lighting to provide improved safety for junior footballers at the Coldstream Junior Football Club, their families and school teachers.
