The Turnbull Government will provide two new ground-breaking flu vaccines to over three million Australians aged 65 years and over - free of charge. This is a direct response to last year’s horrific flu season, which had a devastating impact around the world, and aimed squarely at saving lives. More than 90 per cent of the 1,100 flu related deaths in 2017 were by people aged over 65 years of age.

Record Jobs Growth

Australia’s run of the best jobs growth ever continues with the number of jobs increasing for the 17th straight month (February 2018). This is the longest consecutive run of jobs growth since the monthly labour force statistics commenced 40 years ago.
The Turnbull Government will build the Melbourne Airport Rail Link, connecting the CBD and Tullamarine Airport for all Victorians and the 34 million people who use the airport every year. Talk about a rail connection to the Melbourne Airport is as old as the airport itself but through a Commonwealth investment of $5 billion, this nationally significant project will now become reality.
Plans to build Australia’s new Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle for the Australian Army were announced in late March. Over the 30 year life of the ‘Boxer’ vehicles, Australian industry will deliver two–thirds, or $10.2 billion, of the acquisition and sustainment work. This expenditure will create up to 1450 jobs across Australia, including 170 in Victoria.
The Turnbull Government will establish a national centre to combat the exploitation and abuse of children and vulnerable people. The Government will provide funding in the 2018-19 Budget to enable a new national effort to combat a global epidemic of child abuse.
The Turnbull Government is continuing to build on record levels of investment in mental health services with an additional $110 million to extend and expand mental health programs for young Australians. Around four million Australians experience a mental health condition every year. And people of all ages can be affected – either directly themselves or because someone close to them might be suffering. Even young children can be deeply affected
